The Daoist Priest

This is an adventure set in the Later Han and Three Kingdoms era, blending history with monsters. The protagonists are the young Liu Bei and his monster cousin. The first volume follows the cousin's birth, his enrollment in a Daoist academy, and the two boys' growth over the next ten years, up to the outbreak of the Yellow Turban Rebellion. It also reveals the secrets of the Daoist world, with its plague ghosts and spirits. Here are the characters:

Liu Bei: A poor boy who lives with his mother. Kind by nature, he will one day embark on the brutal path of an emperor.

Li Mao: A demon child born to Liu Bei's aunt and a spirit. He has both human emotions and the ferocity and cruelty of the demon race. Following in his father's footsteps, he eventually becomes a legendary Daoist.

A Zhu: A white snake spirit who dreams of becoming a human girl, a thief who steals elixirs, and the owner of a mysterious silk painting. A fateful encounter with the protagonists during one of her heists binds her to them.

Zhang Jiao: Born into poverty, this seventh-rank Daoist seeks to overthrow the Han Empire. The newborn Li Mao nearly became an ingredient in one of his elixirs. Ten years later, he launches the Yellow Turban Rebellion, shocking the entire court.
