Cooking a Feast in Northern Europe, I Make My Father-in-Law Drool

Jiang Chen is a veteran Chinese expat in Europe, and his excellent cooking, passed down through his family, has earned him a pretty comfortable life.

With the New Year fast approaching, Jiang Chen plans to bring his little Nordic sweetheart home for the holiday!

But his future father-in-law is a stubborn old man who keeps opposing their relationship.

As the old saying goes, to win someone over, first win over their stomach!

And so... Jiang Chen gets to work!

Pork trotters braised in soy sauce.

Future father-in-law: "How could this stuff possibly taste good?"

Now that we're family, I don't need a knife and fork.

Spicy stir-fried rice noodles.

Future father-in-law: "Noodles? Rice noodles? My verdict: not as good as Italian pasta!"

Stir-fried rice noodles, forever the best!

Tofu pudding.

Future father-in-law: "It looks kind of weird... Is this even fit for human consumption?"

Savory tofu pudding is the best. Anyone who prefers the sweet kind can go to hell!

Some time later.

Future father-in-law: "Son-in-law, what's for dinner today? How about sweet-and-sour pork intestine? Huh? It's not that I want it! My daughter likes it!"
