The Legend of the Great Sage

Two wisps of spiritual energy drifted through the world. The Fairy Chang'e gathered them together with the warmth of her love, giving them the initial form of demons. Later, Nuwa bestowed upon them grateful hearts and the power to possess others, and they became demons in their own right. They wandered the boundless wilderness of the Xia Dynasty, training diligently to carry out Lady Nuwa's orders. By a stroke of misfortune, they stumbled into the elaborate trap of the Investiture of the Gods, devised by the Sages, and disrupted the course of fate. Their good fortune was no crime, but Lady Nuwa took notice of them and sent them into Chaoge as elite demon forces, where they possessed King Zhou and Daji. They became passionately entangled, experiencing the pleasures of adulthood and savoring its dangers amid political struggles. As their fortunes diverged, so did their views. They shared a bed while plotting against each other, step by step entering fate's game of chess. Yet their upright and kind natures led them to understand that perhaps they need not simply go with the flow. But with the three schools of Chan, Jie, and Humanism locked in conflict, whether they can remain uninvolved is itself a mystery.
