Fortune-Telling and Talisman Drawing in Class: The Teacher Is Stunned

Zhao Qi, 17, a second-year high school student.

He has sat in the very last row of the classroom for years.

To teachers, the last row is for underachievers. To top students, it's where the sleeping god sits.

But Zhao Qi spends his evening self-study sessions with a bagua diagram on his desk, spinning copper coins in one hand and shaking bamboo fortune sticks in the other, telling his classmates' fortunes and offering them guidance on their luck.

During breaks, while everyone else skips meals to cram, Zhao Qi practices drawing talismans with a brush.

At morning exercises, while everyone else runs, Zhao Qi sits cross-legged in the middle of the field, palms facing the sky, absorbing the purple qi from the east.

In class, while everyone else diligently recites their lessons, Zhao Qi reads the Baopuzi and studies the Nine Daoist Mysteries.

Everyone thinks he's a hopeless loafer and a law unto himself.

But is that really the case?

He's the last heir of the Mystic Sect, able to divine fortune, feng shui, and destiny. The mayor seeks his advice on his future political career; a single talisman cures his classmates' injuries and illnesses, making them regard him as their savior; at military training, he prays for rain to beat the heat. He's practically an immortal...

He's a top student in the occult arts, but the only thing he doesn't like studying is schoolwork.
