The Sparrow in the Cage

In an age when humans and demons live side by side, humans use their wisdom and demons their strength to build a wonderful world together. But the demons dwelling beneath the earth seek to open a passage to the surface. They release demonic corruption through the roots of Jianmu and begin stirring up trouble. At last, with humans and demons aiding one another, the Battle of Wuding Abyss brings the conflict to an end. The demons are sealed at the bottom of the abyss, and humans and demons jointly guard the seal.

Five years after the Battle of Wuding Abyss, the lands of both races have finally regained their former vitality. To ensure a harmonious future for humans and demons, the head of the Nangong family proposes a marriage alliance, intending to marry off his second daughter. But the demons don't agree for nothing. They accept the alliance, but insist that they will choose the groom. After several rounds of talks between the leaders of the human and demon races, it is finally decided that the Wolf King will marry a young lady from the Dongfang family. The Wolf King's line follows the custom of having one queen and one consort. Troubled by this arranged marriage, the Wolf King decides that the bride can only become his consort! The position of queen is reserved for the woman he loves!

Three years later, in the eighth year after the Battle of Wuding Abyss, the Wolf King stands in the garden and sighs. Alas, today my beloved consort has once again refused to become queen.
