Great Ming: Stop Asking, I Really Can't Fight!

In the eighth year of Hongwu's reign, Liu Bowen fell gravely ill and passed away.

At the time, Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang and Crown Prince Zhu Biao were escaping the summer heat in Huangshan. All affairs of state, great and small, were being handled by Hu Weiyong, Left Chancellor of the Secretariat.

Hu Weiyong wielded immense power and had long been at odds with Liu Bowen. So at Liu Bowen's funeral, the officials feared Hu Weiyong so much that not one of them dared to pay their respects!

Only the Empress, unable to attend due to illness, ordered a palace lady to offer a single stick of incense before Liu Bowen's coffin.

Liu Bowen's eldest son, Liu Lian, escorted his father's coffin to their hometown of Qingtian for burial. Of all the court officials, only Song Lian and Lü Chang paid their respects from afar, in a secluded spot by the city gate.

As the funeral procession passed through the bustling streets, a group of Huai River natives stopped Liu Lian, chased him around and harassed him, then set off firecrackers in celebration, shouting, “The old bastard's finally dead! Good riddance!”

When Zhu Yuanzhang heard of the incident at his temporary palace in Huangshan, he flew into a thunderous rage and immediately ordered Crown Prince Zhu Biao to prepare for their return to the palace.

A bloody storm was about to engulf the city of Nanjing!
