Great Tang: A Humble Ninth-Rank Official

Chen Ziliang transmigrates and becomes a despised ninth-rank county magistrate in Wuyai County of the Tang dynasty.

At first, he plans to use his official position to run a few small businesses, live out his days in comfort as a rich man, and marry several wives so he can enjoy the blessings of having them all.

But trouble inevitably comes looking for him.

"In this courtroom, I am the one in charge. No matter how powerful a criminal's backers are, I'll have them executed without hesitation."

"What? A prince broke the law? The emperor is subject to the same laws as commoners. What makes you so special, Prince? Guards, bring out the tiger-head guillotine!"

After heads roll and blood flows like a river,

Chen Ziliang pats his advisor on the shoulder and says, "Advisor, prepare a few coffins."

"Young Master, should I help collect the bodies?"

"I didn't say to collect anyone's body. I meant prepare them for us."

Many years later, Chen Ziliang returns to Wuyai County and lives in seclusion, carrying the imperial gift of the Emperor's Sword and wearing a yellow mandarin jacket.

But no one in the capital dares mention Chen Ziliang's name anymore, and he remains the same insignificant ninth-rank county magistrate.
