Mountains of Dust

This book is set in the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China. It begins with the famous "Ding Wu Qi Huang" in the late Qing Dynasty, when a magistrate who was new to the workplace sacrificed his life to rescue disasters, which highlights the emotional tone of the book about sacrificing himself for the people. Then, starting from the people's anti-imperialist movement in Fuyang, it describes the various lives of three generations of three families in a village through major historical events such as the Boxer Rebellion, the New Deal in the late Qing Dynasty, the Revolution of 1911, warlords' melee, and the Anti-Japanese War, taking only the background of the times. The Shanxi Guildhall, which is used throughout the book, is the best witness to the rise and fall of the ten ancient towns' commerce and tea trade. With the infiltration of Western economic forces, warlords' melee, and the squeeze from the introduction of modernization, traditional commerce, traditional agricultural economy, and the traditional rural social order gradually collapsed. When the spontaneous and conscious bottom-level resistance suffered repeated failures, it finally became a consensus to choose the leadership of the Communist Party and organized revolution. This novel and its characters are purely fictitious. Any similarity is purely coincidental and should not be imitated.
