Great Tang: How Dare You Insult the Heroes Who Died for Their Country?

Fang Ping, a war god who had protected the nation for a generation, was nearing sixty when he resolutely laid down his military authority, retired to the mountains, and settled in Lingyang County.

One day, Lingyang County welcomed a new magistrate. Every resident went out to kneel and greet him.

But Fang Ping had been left with chronic ailments from years of warfare. His health prevented him from going out to welcome the newly appointed magistrate.

To his surprise, the magistrate flew into a rage upon learning this and immediately issued an arrest warrant.

What right did a mere commoner have to refuse to kneel and welcome me?

The court sent me here to deal with unruly commoners like him.

At his command, more than a dozen soldiers sprang into action and went straight to Fang Ping's home. They seized him, and the magistrate even demanded that he kneel.

At that moment, Fang Ping was furious!

"A mere county magistrate dares order me to kneel?"

The next day, a secret dispatch reached the imperial court. It contained only a few brief lines...

"The nation's war hero lives among the people. How can vermin like you dare bully him?!"

That day, Li Shimin was enraged, and the Great Tang was turned upside down.
