Synopsis

The young thug Ma Xiaosan goes to Zhongnan Mountain to dig up an ancient tomb. But when a bolt of lightning strikes, he transmigrates and becomes the eminent monk Budai. From then on, he spreads Buddhism and ultimately forms many good karmic ties. As the saying goes: A twist of fate sends him into reincarnation; reborn, he enters the monastic order. He devotes himself to cultivation and seeks Buddhahood, and only after nine reincarnations does he attain it!

After nine lives of trials, he finally learns that to save oneself, one must first save others! And so: First, he saves Bai Suzhen, who endures countless hardships to find love; second, Nie Xiaoqian, whose true love turns a ghost into a human; third, Zhizunbao, who is reborn as a man and seeks his soulmate; fourth, Su Qier, a beggar who is a hero all the same; fifth, Song Qingshu, whose devotion leads him to true love; sixth, Lin Pingzhi, who enters the Buddhist order despite his disability; seventh, Zhou Huai'an, who shares danger and hardship at the Dragon Gate Inn; eighth, Xie Xiaofeng, a young master who ultimately joins the common folk; ninth, Qiao Feng, reunited with his beloved in happier days!
