The Little Doctor Girl Betrothed Since Childhood Ran Away from Her Wedding

The official in charge of selecting consorts for the imperial palace for many years has been harshly criticized by the palace: his eye for candidates gets worse every year.

Feeling gloomy, the official goes to the Tang residence to admire the flowers and clear his mind. There, he happens upon the Tang family's daughter, and his eyes immediately light up. "Lord Tang, if your daughter participates in the consort selection, the palace will surely be very pleased."

Tang Qiao breaks into a sweat. "My daughter doesn't like life in the palace."

The official smiles without warmth. "When the palace selects consorts, women of suitable age in the common folk have no right to refuse."

Tang Qiao wipes his sweat. "My daughter is already engaged."

The official brushes his sleeve and leaves.

More than ten years ago, the Tang family's daughter and the Xie family's only son were betrothed as infants. Later, the Xie family was falsely accused in political circles and demoted, and the whole family moved away from the capital, losing contact. Now, in his desperation, Tang Qiao has brought up the old engagement, but has no idea how to broach the matter with the Xie family again. Unexpectedly, the Xie family's young master happens to come to the capital for the imperial examinations and stops by to propose. But the Tang family's daughter, who has never left home, runs away before even meeting the man who is to be her future husband…
