Legends of the Ages

If one day you meet someone in this world who looks exactly like you, don't panic. That is your "fated double."

When God created heaven and earth, he fashioned countless "molds" to house souls. The mold is the physical body, and though countless in number, they are still finite. Since then, their number has never changed.

When a soul leaves its mold and goes to the underworld, that life ends. The mold, however, returns to this world again and again, with centuries between appearances, to keep its recurrence hidden.

Souls who inhabit the same mold call one another "fated doubles."

It is a secret, one that has gone undiscovered since time immemorial.

Until the great plague that ravaged the world half a century ago, leaving devastation in its wake. Hundreds of millions of souls flooded into the underworld, placing its barrier under an unprecedented threat.

First, the souls of the renowned figures of history, whose power was immense, broke free of the barrier's restraints and sought out the molds they had inhabited in past lives. As the barrier gradually crumbled, even the obscure souls grew restless, attempting to escape that lightless tomb.

"Fated doubles" proliferated, and the world began to change.
