Showbiz: Plagiarism? How Is It Plagiarism If I'm Copying My Own Song?

Li Jiangnan joined Rising Star, and his song "A Toast to Sorrow" took the internet by storm.

On the eve of the finals, irrefutable evidence surfaced online that his song "The Wind Rises" was plagiarized from the online singer Yanyu.

The controversy snowballed. A flood of abuse followed, and Li Jiangnan was boycotted across the internet, caught in a plagiarism storm.

"You can't just say the melodies are similar. They're exactly the same!"

"He used someone else's music and put his own name on it. Shameless!"

"Did he really think nobody listens to Sakura songs?"

"Maybe no one would've noticed if he'd copied some obscure song, but he plagiarized Yanyu, the biggest star in Sakura Country. Has he always been this bold?!"

At the finals, judge Hua Chenyu even told him to get out.

"Your lyrics are shit! Without plagiarism, you're nothing!"

Li Jiangnan: ...

"Yanyu is my online handle.

"I copied my own song. That doesn't count as plagiarism, does it?"
