I'm Not Fit to Be a Celestial Master? Yeah, Sure!

"Shen Xiao, seventh-rank Tiger-Pattern Celestial Master! Three days ago, during the 'Demon-Slaying Sect' operation, you acted without authorization because you refused to cooperate with the other members of the Daoist sect, causing numerous disciples to be injured!"

"Under the rules of the Celestial Masters' Mansion, you should receive thirty strikes with the heavy whip and be demoted to a third-rank Leopard-Pattern Celestial Master!"

"But in view of your years spent subduing demons and monsters across the land and your countless contributions to the Celestial Masters' Mansion, your punishment has been reduced. You will be demoted to a sixth-rank Qilin-Pattern Celestial Master and sent to the northern frontier of Beiman to serve a three-month sentence, clearing out ghosts and monsters! Once your sentence is complete, you may return and await orders. If you perform well during that time, you may be reinstated to the seventh rank!"

"As for this disciplinary action..."

"You? Any objections?"

Shen Xiao had rendered great service to the Celestial Masters' Mansion, but his loner personality made him a target of the disciplinary elders. They schemed against him, and at a hearing before the three halls, the three elders relentlessly pressed him. Shen Xiao gave a cold laugh, stood up, and tore off his robe. "To hell with the Celestial Masters' Mansion! I'm done!"
