The Primordial Spirit Project

Can consciousness be preserved forever? Can it be separated from its material foundation and stored indefinitely as data? If consciousness can be preserved and operate forever in digital form, would that mean immortality? This would be a true metaverse, and the team behind the project would be the founding gods of that universe! This story is set in the near future, when scientists discover a way to preserve human consciousness as data and upload it to the global network, allowing people to achieve a form of "immortality." But during the project's development and subsequent operation, both real and digital humans face conflicting choices between human nature and self-interest. The story ends on an open note.
