What's Wrong with Traditional Culture and Confidence?

Traditional Chinese literature is born out of storytelling. A story is told in chronological order, divided into chapters, and told repeatedly; densely layered, with a beginning and an end, and no leaks. Western literature, on the other hand, goes in the opposite direction, emphasizing techniques and not revealing anything, and has spawned many schools of anti-novel. I have read the history of Chinese literature in the 20th century and know that changes in traditional Chinese literature began after the May 4th Movement; Western literature poured into China in large quantities and spread with the rise of the vernacular movement. Whether they are writers of the "artistic school" represented by Chen Duxiu or writers of the "life-oriented school" represented by Lu Xun, they are all imitating writing to this day. But having said that, Western novels were not like this at the beginning. It was through long-term exploration and development, and the creative practice of generations of great writers, that they got out of the traditional pattern of palace novels, romance novels, and knightly novels and reached the pinnacle of modern literature. In other words, before the change, everyone's narrative art, regardless of East or West, had this change decades or hundreds of years earlier than us.
