Everyone in the Village Is a Saint, and I'm the Only One in the Dark

Zhang Daoyi grew up in a small village and had never been anywhere else.

A giant golden bird lived in the sky above the village, flying from east to west every day.

Whenever the giant bird flew overhead, a bright light would spread across the land.

When he was very young, Zhang Daoyi pointed at the giant bird in the sky and asked his father to give it to him.

Not long afterward, Zhang Daoyi received a little bird that looked exactly like the giant one in the sky.

From then on, darkness fell over the village, lasting until Zhang Daoyi set the little bird free…

The village butcher sometimes sold all kinds of magical creatures: giant fish and cats with wings, long creatures with claws…

Though these creatures looked strange, their meat was delicious!

The village also had a doctor who spent all day making delicious mud balls, a chef whose dishes looked terrible but shone with golden light, and a craftsman who made all sorts of things…

To Zhang Daoyi, all of this was perfectly ordinary. He was even a little tired of village life and began to yearn for the world beyond…
