The Original Superstar Idol: Starting with a Role as Hanazawa Rui

In 2001, Ye Zhou shot to fame overnight after playing Huaze Lei. He became Asia's first-generation idol, but his acting skills were heavily criticized. Starting with Meteor Garden and The New Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber, he took one step at a time toward becoming a world-class movie star. "Honestly, I don't think 'idol' is a derogatory term. As for acting skills and all that, talent is what it takes."

Ye Zhou said this with a perfectly straight face.
