Records of the Grand Historian: I Wasn't Castrated

The earliest known instance of castration in China is believed to have occurred during the Shang dynasty. The oracle-bone script already contains the character "tu dao," which depicts a knife being used to castrate someone. The Oracle Bone Inscriptions Collection, Volume One, fragment 00525, records: "On the day of Gengchen, divination was performed. The king: May my tu dao on the Qiang not kill him." This shows that eunuchs existed during the reign of King Wu Ding of Shang. By the Zhou dynasty, men who had undergone castration were called "si ren."

I was never castrated. I still have history to write!
