Clearing the World of All Opposition: I Shall Revive the Great Ming!

"Since the start of the Ming Dynasty's Zhengde era, the state has been growing weaker. Emperor Wuzong personally put the traitor Liu Jin to death and led campaigns against border invaders, determined to make a name for himself through military prowess. Yet he indulged in games and pleasures, and drew close to petty men, even appointing himself to official posts, until all distinction between high and low was lost. Fortunately, he still kept the authority to appoint officials in his own hands, while the ministers in charge of state affairs filled the gaps and corrected his mistakes. Thus, although the court's discipline fell into disorder, the country was not brought to ruin. Had he inherited the legacy of Emperor Xiaozong, governed with restraint and care, and possessed the judgment of a middling ruler, the realm would have been at peace and his reputation intact. How could he have left later generations so much to criticize?" - History of Ming
