When I was little, I often wondered why Grandpa seemed to like my older brother more than me.

As I grew up, I wondered whether the difference between boys and girls was the difference between reason and emotion. It didn't seem so. I realized that some girls are very rational, too!

Was it a difference in our bodies? That seemed like the most obvious difference I could see.

I began studying all kinds of people. I started carefully observing the differences between those around me, searching through all kinds of historical material about women, and using the internet to learn more about women's everyday lives.
