The Forbidden Engineering Zone

I had to travel out of town for work to inspect a site. That was when things got strange: the more I looked around the construction site, the more unsettling it seemed. The project couldn't get off the ground, and the whole thing even became entangled in a murder case.

My very first job after graduation was already this rough. I didn't know the situation yet, but I was being sent out of town to inspect a site. I had no idea what a site inspection involved, what kind of land I'd be looking at, or what the place was like. Since it was a project in another city, a coworker and I took the high-speed train to the local station. We thought someone would come to meet us, but after waiting for ages, nobody showed up. So we called the staff member coordinating with us. They couldn't explain things clearly over the phone and just sent us a location, telling us to take a cab there ourselves. My coworker hadn't even reacted to what the staff member said before the call ended. Staring at the phone in their hand, they immediately started cursing. "What is this? What are they playing at? They couldn't even come pick us up..."
