The Forgotten Tenant: Landlord, How Many Properties Do You Own?

A tenant's account: I'm a drifter in Beijing. I've rented a place in the city for three years, paying 3,500 yuan a month for an ordinary standard room.

When I first rented it, the landlord gave me an additional bank card and told me to deposit the rent into it when it was due.

He then reminded me not to contact him unless it was necessary. He was really, really busy. Apparently, he'd set up a 300-mu farm in Yanjiao, something called Heavenly Thunder Pet Paradise, or whatever.

I was especially grateful to have such an undemanding and generous landlord. I paid on time every month. Three years flew by, and rents in the capital rose sharply year after year, but the landlord never once mentioned raising mine.

Then a few days ago, feeling utterly disheartened, I decided to end my life as a drifter in Beijing and called the landlord.

At first, he thought I was a scammer and blocked me outright. Later, I called again from a friend's phone, and only then did the landlord remember he still had an apartment inside Beijing's Third Ring Road.

He'd forgotten about me... and the seven other tenants in that apartment...
