Interviews Across the Ages: China's Inspiring Figures

Ding Hao is a celestial attendant to the Supreme Old Lord. At the Lord's behest, he descends to the mortal world to promote the spirit of Huaxia. He creates the variety show Interviews Across Time, with the goal of inspiring in the public such virtues as benevolence, loyalty, filial piety, fraternal devotion, and patriotism.

He interviews Emperor Shun about the story of how his filial piety moved Heaven. According to legend, Shun's father, Gusou, his stepmother, and his half-brother Xiang repeatedly tried to kill him. Yet Shun never held a grudge. He remained respectful toward his father and loving toward his younger brother, and his filial devotion moved the Heavenly Emperor.

He interviews Chen Jianqiang, a modern Chinese teacher. For five years, so he could personally care for his mother, who suffered from severe dementia, he used a dark blue cloth strip to strap her to himself. Every day, he rode an electric scooter thirty kilometers to work at school, without a word of complaint.

He interviews Emperor Wen of Han, Liu Heng, whose reputation for benevolence and filial piety was known throughout the land. He never slackened in caring for his mother. When she was bedridden for three years, he often stayed awake all night and never changed out of his clothes. He even tasted her medicine himself before letting her take it, just to make sure it was safe.

After the program aired, it became a hit with viewers.
