Fallen Star

Saint Delaise and Earth's civilization are two lone survivors in a dark forest. Though the two parent-and-daughter civilizations differ greatly in their level of development, that does not stop them from joining forces when they meet in a crisis and pressing onward into the deeper darkness. On Saint Delaise, the homeworld, Alliance Chief Executive Tai Sheng is betrayed by his subordinates. As the Reformation Army is about to seize the United Tower where he is based, he initiates the New Wandering Plan and dispatches a fleet of wanderers toward the star system inhabited by the daughter civilization. Meanwhile, the Ultimate Weapon, surrounded by the Reformation Army, leaps into Saint Delaise's central energy furnace in a final act of defiance. The resulting energy cutoff starts the Doomsday Clock, and the ensuing explosion utterly destroys Saint Delaise's civilization. Behind the fleeing fleet lie endless seas of fire and scattered ** stars. Years later, on Earth, an observatory somewhere detects a tiny point of light spreading like a drop of ink on paper, about 35 million light-years away. Several erratic brushstrokes appear across a nearby band of interstellar dust. Two survivors are about to meet. Which one will make it to the deepest reaches? The Watcher will write the final answer.
