The Rise of Chinese Folk Music: From the Start, I Pick Up the Suona

As China's traditional instruments and folk music, passed down for thousands of years, faced the onslaught of Western music,

Shen Ye raised a suona and played a tune.

From that day on...

When the tune begins and the cloth goes over the coffin, the whole village waits for the food to be served.

Some walk, some are carried, and friends and family burst into tears.

Of all the instruments, the suona reigns supreme.

It plays either at a funeral or at a wedding.

A thousand years of pipa, ten thousand years of guzheng. A lifetime spent playing the erhu.

There is no one the suona cannot make cry, and no soul it cannot send on its way.

As Shen Ye pressed forward, leading Chinese music to the pinnacle of the world,

he casually remarked, "Only what is rooted in a nation's culture can belong to the world."

At that moment, the whole world fell silent, leaving only one voice of astonishment: "Chinese music is amazing!"
