The Nine Princes' Succession Struggle: It's a Misunderstanding! Just a Blunder

When Kangxi made his southern tour, he met a Han Chinese woman named Chen Xiu. But the imperial rule forbidding marriage between Manchus and Han Chinese meant he couldn't take her back to the palace.

Jiangnan was stricken by famine, and countless people died.

Chen Yuqi is reborn, only to find that his father has already met with disaster. His mother is taken in by Chen Xiu, who is pregnant as well.

The two pregnant women give birth on the same night. One loses her son, the other her mother.

His adoptive mother, Chen Xiu, passes away. Chen Yuqi grows up and, for reasons he can't explain, his businesses prosper until he becomes the richest man in Jiangnan, eventually gaining power over everything.

On his deathbed, Kangxi says, "I'll come clean. I'm your father. Can you call me Ama?"

Chen Yuqi replies, "It's a misunderstanding! Chen Xiu was my adoptive mother. I'm really not your son. This is all a mix-up. But don't worry, go in peace. I won't let this splendid empire down."

Kangxi dies.
