The Compendium of Demons from the Classic of Mountains and Seas

In 2028 by the Chinese calendar, disasters are throwing the world into turmoil. Even desert regions have been submerged by torrential rain and flooding. The protagonist, Zhong Wei, happens upon an ancient book on the road. A book spirit inexplicably appears, persuades Zhong Wei to form a pact, and summons Bai Ze, a divine beast from antiquity. The book spirit and Bai Ze have come to the human world for two reasons: to find their missing companion, and to seek a person of destiny to help quell the rampages of other ancient divine beasts, which are behind the disasters occurring across the world, and restore peace. But things are not so simple...
