Chronicles of the Other Shore

“Am I... dead? How is that possible? Didn't I just drink too much?” Zhou Zu began to panic. He was about to call for the shopkeeper.

A thunderclap suddenly split the sky. A thick bolt of lightning, blazing purple and red, instantly struck Zhou Zu's semitransparent body.

Zhou Zu's spirit flickered and collapsed onto the ground.

The shopkeeper glanced at Zhou Zu, slumped over the table, and shook his head. He thought, A thunderbolt this huge struck right beside you, and you still didn't wake up. If it had hit you, you'd have been roasted alive.

Just then, a middle-aged man appeared out of thin air. He wore a sharp suit, had short hair combed in a side part, a shiny face, and an utterly ordinary appearance.

Looking at Zhou Zu, he muttered, “You were struck by yang lightning right after you died, yet your soul didn't scatter. What a miracle!”

This man was an emissary who escorted souls to the underworld.
