About This Novel

Leibniz said that Chinese people naturally hate war. He also said that if the Chinese want to survive on this earth, they must learn the evil methods of their Westerners. In modern times, Machiavelli was known as the "evil teacher". Military activities were not only an important part of his political career, but military thought also occupied an extremely important position in his entire thinking. Many great military strategists in the West, including Frederick II and Napoleon, were influenced by him. The shadow of Machiavelli can often be seen in the books of Clausewitz, a military theorist who was a contemporary of Napoleon. Machiavelli's "The Art of War" (also translated as "The Art of War" and "The Art of War") is the only important prose work published during his lifetime, which concentratedly expresses his military thoughts. Although there are several Chinese translations of "The Art of War" in China, compared with "The Prince" and "Livy's History", academic research on this text is still extremely limited. This book selects 9 essays that interpret "The Art of War", either from the external form of the work, or from the rhetorical perspective and writing style, or from major themes such as the relationship between war and politics, or from the main structure of the work. It approaches the text from multiple levels, dimensions, and perspectives, discovers the meaning hidden under the surface of the text, and listens carefully to the subtext beyond Machiavelli's words.
