The story begins with a pair of shoes. Eight-year-old Florence has been begging for a pair of shoes, but her mother said it was dangerous and wild to wear shoes. She kept her son by her side and used her daughter to pay off her master's debt. Now, Florence's lover has also left. In the dark night, she traveled across mountains and rivers to find him. There were terrifying behemoths in the forest; a group of indigenous men on horseback surrounded her; the strangers were afraid that she was a devil and examined her body from a distance without any recognition in their eyes, but she did not flinch. She believed that her lover would protect her... But in the end, what she got was lost innocence, broken dreams, and a pair of soles as hard as cypress trees.
