This book is a collection of essays on opera by Mr. Xu Jinbang, a professor at Shandong Normal University. The content includes five parts: 1. Overall research on ancient opera. It discusses the national characteristics of ancient Chinese operas that are different from foreign dramas in terms of ideological content, literary expression and performance, examines and analyzes the modern consciousness, loyalty, filial piety and justice in ancient Chinese operas, and summarizes and explains the types of conflicts and ideological implications in ancient Chinese love dramas. 2. Research on Zaju of Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. This article discusses the unique character creation, language style, science and comedy, and the use of suspense in Yuan dramas, as well as the satirical drama and heartfelt drama of Ming and Qing dramas. 3. Research on legends of Ming and Qing Dynasties. Discusses the evolution of legendary language and rhythm in the Ming and Qing dynasties. 4. Research on Sanqu in Yuan Dynasty. The relationship between Beiqu music and Yuanqu (mainly Sanqu) is discussed, and the mentality of the literati in the Yuan Dynasty is studied from Yuanqu (mainly Sanqu). This paper comprehensively and systematically classifies and studies five types of Sanqu works of the Yuan Dynasty: seclusion, love, descriptions of people and objects, sighs about the past, and descriptions of scenes. The unique artistic characteristics of Sanqu in the Yuan Dynasty were also studied in depth. 5. Research on ancient Chinese literature and opera.
