About This Novel
"Chi Osmanthus" is a short story published by Yu Dafu in 1932. The book tells the story of Weng Zesheng, who came from a scholarly family and studied in Japan and was very ambitious. Later, his family fell into decline, he fell ill and dropped out of school, and his marriage suffered a setback. From then on, he quietly recuperated in his hometown. After recovering from health, he became a primary school teacher, and later agreed to marry a wife to reassure his mother. Because of his marriage, he remembered his old friend Lao Yu, whom he had not seen for more than ten years, and invited him to attend his wedding. Lao Yu was invited to come, and was attracted by the beautiful scenery of Wengjia Mountain, and was deeply touched by the pure, lovely and kind-hearted nature of Weng Zesheng's sister Weng Lian, who was as beautiful as the late sweet-scented osmanthus in the mountains.
