About This Novel

The background of the story is the transition from the late Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China. In a small town called Sanhu on the Ganjiang River, Xiaoqiu is the son of the county magistrate Li Qiupu. Because he likes romantic poems, he was taught by his father not to do a serious job, and was later sent to a private school to study. In the private school, he met Chunhua, the daughter of his teacher, whom he fell in love with, but Chunhua was already engaged. Even though the two loved each other, they failed because they could not completely resist, and it became a "wild goose flying south" ending.
