Western Volume 1
by Lou Zhaoming Editor-in-chief Tianbo
About This Novel
Most of the translations in the Western volume of this anthology are works by young and middle-aged translators in the past ten years. Translations by Lu Xun, Zhou Zuoren, Mao Dun and other generation writers who have learned both Chinese and Western knowledge are also selected. Translating prose is as difficult as translating poetry, and among several different translations of the same work, it is not necessarily the one who comes from behind. Here, the translations of the older generation of writers and translators, such as Ba Jin, Fu Lei, and Wang Zuoliang, can be said to be comparable to the original works and are amazing examples. In recent years, the translation and publication of foreign prose in our country has begun to become serialized and systematized in the form of book series. Although there are still many omissions and gaps in foreign prose classics, which are not always balanced among regions and are not commensurate with the prosperity of prose in the original country, the outline of the world's major prose country is clearly visible. Without the hard work of several generations of translators, it would be impossible to compile such a comprehensive anthology.
