Jane Eyre's parents died when she was young, and she was adopted by her uncle. After her uncle passed away, she was raised by her aunt, but she was bullied because of it. When she was ten years old, her aunt sent her to Lowood Charity School for orphan girls and left her to fend for herself. Jane Eyre spent eight years in that school, which was threatened by poverty and disease, and relied on her strong will to complete her studies.
