Sarah Tisdale is an outstanding contemporary romantic female poet in the United States. Her poems are very popular among readers. Much of the content centers on the woman's changing perspectives on beauty, love, and death, and many of the poems chart the development of her own life: from a sheltered girl in St. Louis, to a successful but increasingly restless writer in New York City, to a woman who became disillusioned and committed suicide in 1933. Although some later critics did not regard Teasdale as a great poet, she remained popular with both the public and critics throughout her life.
