It was time to set off to find a continuation or some meaning for the past winter." Four couples of men and women living in Paris, they are novelists, editors, rich girls, actors, medical students... They love, they sigh, they drink, they cheat. They are also us. The book is almost full of men who are unable to fall in love and women who think they are sober. Their lives seem to be a "long dizzy without a soundtrack", and they can only hit themselves with violent emotions. They pursue desire and joy, or pain or happiness, but in the end they turn into a string of nothings.
