First Hunt Bonfire
by Juba
About This Novel
The story is based on Ah Ju's lonely life in the city. In bustling subway stations, cold and depressing office buildings and other scenes, he always carries a yellowed photo, which is a beautiful memory of him, Xiao Chen and Xiao Ju'er in the rural bamboo forest. The vultures and air guns in the photos, the tranquil bamboo forest, and the clear streams all symbolize the innocent and beautiful times of the past, in stark contrast to the real city life. In the memories, under the leadership of Xiao Chen, the young boy Xiao Juer experienced his first night hunting in his life. From the initial nervousness and excitement to the guilt and reflection after discovering the turtle dove egg, he gradually understood the true meaning of hunting and the reverence for life. These memory fragments are interspersed with Aju's real life, showing a kind of persistence and reluctance to let go of the past through his nostalgia for his childhood rural life. As the story develops, Aju feels increasingly confused and exhausted in city life, but Xiaojuer and Xiaochen in his memories always give him warmth and strength. Finally, Aju returned to the bamboo forest in a dream and felt the long-lost peace and beauty. He decided to pursue his inner calling and embark on a journey to find his past and himself. The novel ends with an open ending of A Ju and Xiao Ju'er merging, and Xiao Ju'er and Xiao Chen going far away, implying hope and longing for the future.
