About This Novel

"Pillow" was written around 1001 AD. It was the first of Japanese essay literature. It is a work written by Shonagon of the Qing Dynasty. Together with "The Tale of Genji", it is called "the twin gems of Heian literature". The book has a total of 305 paragraphs, divided into three major contents: clustering, diary and random thoughts. Involving geographical features, vegetation, flowers and birds, inner emotions, life interests and other contents, it richly reflects Qing Shao Nayan's delicate observation and aesthetic taste. The diary records the author's life in the palace, which reflects her deep emotional experience with Queen Fujiwara Teiko, as well as fragments of her life in the palace. This part of the content allows readers to understand the living conditions and tastes of the royal family and nobles in Japan's Heian period. Random thoughts are random thoughts about nature and life, especially the author's bright and free attitude towards life.
