About This Novel

"Shun Kotsho" is a collection of works by the Japanese literary master Junichiro Tanizaki, including "Shun Kotsho", "Praise of Shadows", "Various Travels" and "Weary Guests". "Shuncho" is Tanizaki Junichiro's masterpiece. It was published in 1933 and became a best-seller immediately. This novel is a classic of pure love novels. It tells the story of Sasuke, a man who came from his hometown in the countryside to work as an apprentice in a shop in Osaka, and fell in love with the beautiful and intelligent blind daughter Haruqin of his master's family. During the not-long period of getting along with her, he gave up almost everything that an ordinary man could give up, and instead led her by the way, took care of her daily life, and practiced shamisen with her. Later, her face was disfigured, and he immediately mutilated his eyes without hesitation... The other three articles included in this book are essays, all of which were included in the 1955 essay collection "In Praise of Shadows". Among them, "In Praise of Shadows" is regarded as Junichiro Tanizaki's masterpiece of literary essays, which concentratedly explains and displays his core aesthetic thoughts. "Various Travels" and "Weary of Visitors" are short, concise and lively writing, and are also his representative essays.
