About This Novel
The protagonist, little Remy, is an abandoned child of unknown origin who was adopted by a French farmer. Remy was kind and innocent by nature, and lived a poor but peaceful life under the care of his loving mother. After his evil adoptive father returned to his hometown, he sold him to a wandering entertainer with high moral character but mysterious identity, so he kept company with animals and made a living by performing sideshows.
