That Second Master's War
by Cheng Hui
About This Novel
The second master was originally a son of the Eight Banners in Beijing. Because he indulged in fun and neglected financial management, his family declined. The Eight-Power Allied Forces attacked Beijing and fled south with his family to Wuyuan, Jiangxi. In order to survive, the second master changed his old cynical habits, took advantage of his family's past business resources and Wuyuan's advantages, worked hard to start a business, and became the leading wealthy businessman in the local area. In 1938, Japan invaded Wuyuan. In order not to be regarded as a traitor, he dispersed his family wealth and worked with his fellow villagers to take advantage of Wuyuan's terrain, climate and other favorable factors to clear the country and unite with the outside world to form an iron wall that prevented the invaders from capturing Wuyuan. In the end, they left in despair. Wuyuan became a rare "pure land" that was not occupied by the Japanese in several provinces in southeastern China during the Anti-Japanese War.
