The short story collection "Songs of the Blind" was first published in 1964 and is the second collection of short stories by the Mexican literary master Carlos Fuentes. The book is composed of seven fantastic stories full of magical colors, namely "The Two Elenas", "The Doll Queen", "Destined", "Old Morality", "The Price of Life", "Pure Heart" and "Sea Serpent". Four of them have been adapted into movies and put on the big screen. Each story is well-conceived and the plot is full of drama. The fate of the protagonist often reverses suddenly at the end, which is unexpected. The title of this book, "Songs of the Blind," comes from the last part of "The Book of True Love," a collection of poems compiled by the Spanish poet Juan Ruiz, Archpriest of Ita, in the fourteenth century. This book was published ten years apart from Fuentes's debut novel "The Day of the Mask". During these ten years, Fuentes accumulated rich writing experience and skilled writing skills through the creation of four novels: "The Clearest Area", "Conscience", "The Death of Artemio Cross" and "Ola".
