Thoreau revised his manuscript seven times and finally published it in 1854. "Walden" records Thoreau's secluded life and thoughts during more than two years at Walden Pond, showing nature with human presence. Using trees, plants, soil and wildlife as references, the fate of humanity is pondered. The book is structured around seasons, mixing proverbs, historical facts and anecdotes, integrating scientific observations into a high degree of poetry.
