About This Novel

Dorothy L. Sayers was a famous British detective novelist, dramatist, theological theorist and translator. In the history of mystery novels, Sayers is a great name: together with Agatha Christie and Josephine Tey, she is known as the "Three Heroines of Mystery"; she is also the only great writer in history to have five works selected into the prestigious list of the top 100 mystery novels in the United Kingdom and the United States. "Nine Tolls of the Bell" tells the story of the kind-hearted Mrs. Sulp who died of illness and was buried under the bell. Soon her husband, Mr. Sulp, also passed away. When people dug up Mrs. Sulp's grave to bury them together, they found the severely damaged body of an unknown man on the coffin. This shocked the people in the whole town and also attracted the famous detective Lord Wimsey who was passing by. Whose body was this? For whom does the bell toll? Sayers unfolds the mystery for us layer by layer.
