Researchers in the history of ideas focus on the mutual shaping of history and ideas in order to understand countries, societies and individuals in history. However, the field called "history of ideas" has undergone quite important changes in the past few decades. Not only has the focus of research been shifted repeatedly, but the research methods have been updated and updated. Even the research on the history of ideas itself has become a multi-billion-year-old, integrating with various specialized disciplines. Based on the above understanding, the Institute of Literature and History of Fudan University has established the "Fudan University High-end Forum on Ideological History" since 2019. It is an annual forum that invites scholars from around the world to stimulate ideas and conduct new research on old history. This book collects the results of the first "Fudan University High-end Forum on the History of Thought" held in December 2019. The theme of this forum is "Thousands of Incarnations: An Open History of Ideas", hoping to respond to the many twists and turns encountered in the study of the history of ideas, and to bring together scholars from various fields to share concerns about the research issues in the history of ideas.
