Hopeless Empty City
by Li Yan
About This Novel
When I was eighteen years old, using 200% of my strength to love was still not enough; after the age of thirty, being able to give fifty percent of my strength felt like a luxury. As people grow up, their ability to love shrinks, accompanied by more and more timidity. They learn to be cautious about feelings, advance and retreat repeatedly in love, constantly guess and test, and every step forward must be cautious, lest one is not careful and the situation cannot be dealt with. In a hospital, a tense, busy environment full of patients suffering from diseases, the sacrifice and dedication of doctors need to be strengthened. Personal life and emotions seem to be an insignificant part, time is compressed, and energy is dispersed... They are actually very lonely. The city is too big and empty, and sometimes I crave the warmth of a physical embrace. It seems that the years are peaceful and the present world is stable, but there is always an empty wilderness deep in my heart, with a biting wind and no one around. Who can accompany whom, who can warm whom, who can miss whom, and who can crush whose hope in the empty city streets?
