About This Novel
Zhang Xuecheng's "General Meanings of Literature and History" is a masterpiece of traditional Chinese history. Zhang Xuecheng had only a few works during his lifetime, and his friend Wang Zongyan compiled his works on his behalf. The editions handed down from generation to generation vary greatly in the number of editions and the number of chapters. Mr. Cang Xiuliang worked hard for thirty years to recover Zhang's posthumous writings and compiled "New Edition and New Notes on the General Meanings of Literature and History", which has 176 more articles than Ye Ying's version of "General Meanings of Literature and History" which is currently the most widely circulated. He can be regarded as a hero of Zhang's family. On the basis of fully absorbing the research results of Hu Shi, Qian Mu and other sages, "New Edition and New Notes on the Tongyi of Literature and History" examines the writing dates of the articles included in "General Meanings of Literature and History" in detail, providing an important reference for us to deeply understand the evolution of Zhang Xuecheng's academic thoughts.
