About This Novel

This book is one of the "Shanghai Literature Research Series in Overseas Asian Sinology" organized and compiled by the "Chinese Urban Literature Research" team of the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences. It mainly focuses on the main research results of Shanghai literature in Southeast Asian academic circles since the new century, including the writing of Shanghai in Southeast Asian literature, the literary imagination of Shanghai and even China in the minds of overseas Chinese, etc. The papers included in this book involve many research subjects, such as Lu Xun, Yu Dafu, Xu Zhimo, Zhang Ailing, Yang Sao, Liu Naou, Liu Yanling, Wang Anyi and other writers, all of whom have at least one academically focused article. Vietnamese scholar Nguyen Thu Hien has a unique perspective on the relationship between Shanghai literature and modern and contemporary Vietnamese literature from the perspective of translatology. The appendix has selected several relatively relaxed essays and short interview articles related to Shanghai writers, which can be regarded as a kind of aftertaste, making reading more interesting. This book is extremely helpful for our understanding of literary exchanges between Shanghai and Southeast Asia.
